With classes dismissed for the summer, administrators at Tuscaloosa City Schools are seeking to hire bus drivers for the upcoming academic year, with hourly pay starting around $24 and a signing bonus to sweeten the deal.

In a Monday announcement, a spokesperson for TCS said they are hosting a hiring fair next Monday, June 8th, for prospective applicants who want to make an impact on children by getting them safely to and from class.

TCS is seeking to hire eight drivers and said it is offering a $2,000 signing bonus and starting pay of $23.80 per hour. The system also makes drivers eligible for benefits, including health insurance and state retirement.

The event will kick off next Monday at 9 a.m. at the TCS Transportation Department on James I. Harrison Parkway. Staff will be there until 1 p.m. to speak with applicants, who can apply and interview on-site.

"We're looking for people who enjoy driving and who enjoy working with children," said Tiny McCool, transportation director for Tuscaloosa City Schools. "This position is a great fit for people who have flexible schedules and would like to earn additional income, including cosmetologists, realtors, ministers and others. We provide the training, we pay you while you train, and you'll have the opportunity to play an important role in safely transporting our students every day."

TCS will pay for the required training and compensate new hires while they complete it. Candidates must have a clean driving record and meet all state requirements for school bus drivers.
