Tourism Bureau Secures Series of Tournaments for Tuscaloosa Tennis Center
The vastly upgraded Tuscaloosa Tennis Center will host a series of tournaments recently secured by the Visit Tuscaloosa tourism bureau, they announced this week.
These events are planned for 2026 through 2028 and will bring hundreds of tennis players and spectators to the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center in Alberta, which is undergoing massive expansion expected to wrap up soon.
The project was slated to add 17 outdoor tennis courts and upgrade Jaycee Park, and that was before the estate of tennis lover Emily Baker funded the addition of three more for a total of 20.
“The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center couldn’t be more excited about the future of tennis and our community. This expansion will allow us to serve the game at an entirely new level,” said Mike Goldammer, Director of Tennis at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center. “Our goal is to grow the game exponentially through local programming, partnerships and competition at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels while ensuring accessibility for all who are interested in the sport. We will continue working closely with key partners to deliver a best-in-class tennis experience.”

Visit Tuscaloosa said the lineup of tournaments includes college, adult, junior and championship-level play, bringing athletes of every caliber to the top-tier facility.
“Since renovations began at the Tennis Center, with support from Elevate Tuscaloosa, the team at the TTC has worked tirelessly alongside Visit Tuscaloosa to attract local, state and national tournaments,” said Robins Bonner, Senior Sport Sales and Event Development Manager at Visit Tuscaloosa. “These events not only showcase our upgraded facility as a premier, championship-ready venue but also drive economic growth through tourism while giving visitors the opportunity to experience firsthand what makes Tuscaloosa the South’s premier college town.”
The earliest event booked is the ITA Summer Points Race Series on July 17 and 18th of this year, a summer circuit where student-athletes can earn national ranking points, gain match experience, and compete for prize money against top talent.
The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center will also host USTA Adult and Junior National Tournaments throughout June, July, and August 2026, which they said should draw significant participation and spectator interest.
The tourism organization also announced securing the USTA 18 and 40+ Mixed State Championships for August 2027 and August 2028.
“These are two of the most sought-after USTA State Championship events of the year, representing a major win for Tuscaloosa and the Tennis Center,” they said.
The estimated economic impact of the 2026 tournaments alone is more than $450,000, with an anticipated 300-plus competitors and 700-plus spectators.
Hundreds more players and spectators will come to Tuscaloosa for multiple days of competitive play in the 2027 and 2028 touraments, too.
“The Tuscaloosa Tennis Center is helping to transform an area that was ravaged by a major tornado in 2011,” said Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner. “The expansion of the tennis center has already led to new business opportunities in this area because of the center’s early success. Build it, and they shall come.”
