Severe Storms Causing Power Outages in West Alabama
Severe thunderstorms in Alabama have caused electricity loss across the state.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight on Friday for several counties across the state.
These include Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.
Thunderstorms of this type bring with them strong winds reaching 60 mph and the potential for small hail.
Storm conditions have already led to hundreds of power outages in Fayette County. As of 6 p.m. PowerOutage.US listed Fayette as having 1,461 customers without power.
Additionally, the site reported Lamar County as having 501 outages and Pickens County as having 425 outages.
Residents in affected areas are encouraged to seek shelter.
