VCU Investigating Death of 29-Year-Old Woman at Tuscaloosa County Jail
Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit are working a death investigation at the Tuscaloosa County Jail after a woman died there Tuesday night.
Capt. Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the VCU, said a 29-year-old woman who was an inmate there was being treated for a medical issue at the jail around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6 when she became unresponsive.

Jail staff immediately rendered aid, Sellers said, and the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She did not survive.
Sellers said no further information is available at this time.
The woman has not been publicly identified. The Violent Crimes Unit routinely investigates deaths that occur in custody at the Tuscaloosa County Jail, which is operated by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators not affiliated with TCSO will handle this case.
