Cooling Stations to Open for Those in Need in Tuscaloosa County This Week

Cooling stations will open for those experiencing homelessness in Tuscaloosa County this week as temperatures rise to hazardous highs.

The Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency said on Facebook Wednesday that cooling stations will open at Marantha Adventist Church and Alberta Baptist Church Thursday and Friday afternoon and at Forest Lake United Methodist Church Saturday.

The churches are not shelters and neither meals nor overnight stays are on offer, but anyone needing water and a place to cool off can stop in between noon and 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Rides are also available for anyone who needs them in the city of Tuscaloosa, in Northport and in the County, and the EMA's post shared phone numbers to call for anyone who requires transportation.

When the cooling stations close at 7 p.m., anyone still inside will be transported back to where they were picked up or to another reasonable alternative.
