Tuscaloosa’s first Beef ‘O’ Brady’s opened Monday on McFarland Boulevard, drawing city and Chamber of Commerce officials to a ribbon-cutting at the sports bar and restaurant.

The excitement around the opening - and $50 gift cards for the first 50 guests - also drew a large crowd of patrons excited to try the city's newest culinary offering.

Owner Mike Patel converted the building at 3799 McFarland Boulevard East from Curry Kitchen, the Indian restaurant he opened there in 2024, to the now-open Beef 'O' Brady's.

Before that, the space had been empty for a spell after Tuscaloosa's O’Charley’s closed.

“Thanks to the Tuscaloosa community, from the day we announced this opening, your excitement and support have meant the world to all of us,” co-owner Milan Bhokani said Monday. “Our door is open, the food is hot and there is a seat waiting for you.”

From Curry Kitchen to Beef 'O' Brady's

District 6 Councilman John Faile, who cut the ribbon Monday the the owner's request, said the restaurant has been a long time coming.

“We’re just so excited that you’d invest in Tuscaloosa. We’re always excited to see new business, but I’ve seen Beef O’Brady’s advertised for a long time and I’m looking forward to this, and I know the people of the city are too,” Faile said.

Barkley Garrett, vice president of economic and community development for the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, pointed to the hiring.

“Thank you for the jobs you’re creating here,” Garrett said. “We know you could have invested your money anywhere, but by coming here we know that’s a vote of confidence in our community.”

Patel told the Thread earlier this month that the franchise is built for families and for watching games, with more than 50 televisions and staff who will set individual tables to whatever is on.

“It’s not like some restaurants where you can’t really bring kids,” he said. “It’s easygoing, sports-focused.”

Patel extended the outdoor patio during the renovation and converted part of the interior into a private room for meetings and parties that seats about 25.

Patel has been in business in Pickens County for years, where he owns a supermarket and a deli. His group also operates a Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Hoover and locations in Florida and Mississippi, with two more restaurants under construction in Columbus, Mississippi.

Beef ‘O’ Brady’s was founded in Brandon, Florida in 1985 and has since spread across the Southeast and Midwest. This is the chain’s first location in Tuscaloosa.
