Expressing her commitment to supporting victims of these heinous crimes, Governor Ivey emphasized the importance of accessible assistance for those in distress. She commended the efforts of the organizations receiving grants for their dedication to aiding victims in their journey toward recovery.

The grant recipients include:

  • Tuscaloosa SAFE Center Inc. - $54,500 to assist sexual assault victims in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties.
  • SAN Inc., better known as Turning Point- $29,000 to provide a variety of services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Bibb, Fayette, Hale, Lamar, Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties.
  • Legal Services Alabama Inc. -  $54,133 for Project Leviticus, which will provide an attorney for 38 hours a week and a project manager for 11 hours a week to cover domestic violence cases in Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes and Pike counties.

The grants, administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), stem from funds provided by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Kenneth Boswell, Director of ADECA, echoed Governor Ivey's sentiments, emphasizing the crucial role of local agencies in providing essential aid to victims throughout the state.
