
Cold Snap Ahead: Freeze Warning Issued for West Alabama
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a “Freeze Warning.”
It’s hard to imagine any cold weather, since the expected high today is 81°F for Sumter County, 80 °F for Bibb, Greene, and Pickens counties, 79 °F for Hale, Lamar, Perry, and Tuscaloosa counties, and 78 °F for Fayette and Walker counties.
However, we have been on a severe weather and temperature rollercoaster for several days now.
- The “Freeze Warning” goes into effect on Monday, March 16, at 10 p.m. and ends Tuesday, March 17, at 10 a.m.
- Residents should prepare for lows between 22 and 29 degrees, with wind chills between 14 and 26 degrees.

- Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
- To prevent freezing and possible pipe bursting, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
- Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
