The Westside Church of Christ is hosting a Community Backpack and School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. until all supplies are distributed. The event will be held at the church located at 2925 17th Street, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35401.

According to the press release, “This event is open to the entire community. We look forward to serving local families and helping students start the school year prepared and encouraged.”

Providing free backpacks and school supplies helps ease the financial burden on families facing rising back-to-school costs while giving students an equal opportunity to begin the school year prepared for success, said the organizers of the Community Backpack & School Supply Giveaway.

Giveaway Guidelines

  • One (1) backpack per child.
  • One (1) backpack may be provided to a parent or guardian/family who a child does not accompany.
  • Backpacks and supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
  •  Children should be present when possible.

Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
