Strong Storm Risk Upgraded Across West Alabama Today

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the risk level for strong to severe thunderstorms to a “Slight Risk” (Level 2 of 5) now through 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that with “very unstable conditions & potential for "microburst" type wind gusts between 40 and 60mph within stronger storms.”

The “Slight Risk” covers the entire Townsquare Media coverage area of West Alabama, including the following counties: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in Birmingham until Wednesday, July 1 at 8 p.m.

This watch includes all of West Alabama: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Remains

As of 4:08 p.m., the National Weather Service has maintained the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east central Walker County and Blount County. According to the National Weather Service, "A majority of the area west of I-65 and north of I20/US-82 has stabilized."

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Expires

According to the National Weather Service, the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Blount and Walker counties has expired at 4:22 p.m.
