Midweek Marginal Storm Threat Develops Across Portions of Alabama
Portions of Alabama are at risk for severe thunderstorms later on today, Wednesday, June 24.
“Much of the state will be dry; however, a band of strong storms will likely move into the southwest part of the state this afternoon,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist.
Risk Level and Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has the southwest portion of Alabama under a level 1 out of 5 risk for strong to severe thunderstorms. This does include some counties in West Alabama: Greene, Hale, Lamar (small southwestern corner), Perry (a good portion of the county), Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa (southwestern corner of the county).
Timeline
The timing of these storms is between “1 p.m. and 8 p.m.,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Potential Threats
The National Weather Service in Birmingham noted that the main threat within these storms is “damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph.”
In addition, “the risk is associated with a compact weather system that will approach from Mississippi, which may become reinvigorated upon arrival.”
