Alabama Faces Marginal Risk for Severe Storms Saturday
The Townsquare Media Weather Center is currently monitoring the potential for severe weather on Saturday, August 1. The incoming weather is part of a larger system tracking toward our area from the Plains into the Ohio Valley, headed south–southeast.

The Storm Prediction Center has a section of Alabama under a “Marginal Risk- 1 out of 5 Risk Level” for strong to severe thunderstorms, while the other portion of the state is under a thunderstorm risk. Within the marginal risk area, forecasters estimate a “5 to 14%” probability of severe weather.
The main threat with this system for our area is “damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. We should be able to provide timing ahead of the system's arrival.
You should “expect a gradual increase in the number of scattered showers and storms tomorrow through Sunday,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. “Highest coverage will likely come on Saturday, but understand it still won't rain everywhere, and it certainly won't rain all day. No wash-out.”
We will continue to monitor this developing weather system.
