Wommack “We Weren’t as Dominant”
Alabama's defense has allowed just two touchdowns and less than 250 yards per game against the first three opponents on the schedule en route to a 3-0 start to the young season, but if you listen to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, it's still not enough for the Crimson Tide.
"The numbers looked like we were dominant, but I didn't think we were as dominant as we were capable of," Wommack said.
Wommack is also unimpressed with Alabama's run defense, which is allowing 3.48 yards per rush and 132.3 rush yards per game, "We have to work on cleaning up some fundamentals and techniques."
What Are The Positives?
Alabama has run over 100 snaps defensively in man coverage so far this season. Of those snaps? Alabama has surrendered just two catches for 24 yards according to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.
An area where Alabama has improved since the start of the season? Forcing turnovers. The Crimson Tide forced four fumbles in the contest against the Badgers, "I thought we played a very complimentary style of football," Wommack said. "One of the things I've been pleased with as a team is when we create takeaways on defense, we're turning around and turning them into scores."
And of course, we'd be remiss if we did not mention the performance of LT Overton, who had six tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, and a forced fumble on Saturday. Wommack also mentioned the performance by Overton, "When you go back and you watch the tape, it's impressive to see how dominant LT was in that game."
Alabama's defense will have one more week to work on things in practice, then they prepare for the No. 2 team in the country - the Georgia Bulldogs.
