Simpson is one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award. The winner of the Manning Award will be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship in January.

Simpson is in his first season as the Crimson Tide's starting quarterback after sitting and learning behind former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and former third-round pick Jalen Milroe. During his first 12 games as Alabama's starting quarterback, Simpson completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,056 yards and 25 touchdowns to four interceptions. Simpson also added 126 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Simpsin was a permanent captain for the Crimson Tide in 2025, leading Alabama to a 1-2 overall record and a 7-1 record in SEC play, finishing as the SEC's No. 1 seed in the conference standings and clinching the Tide the top overall seed in Saturday's SEC Championship game. Simpson's 25 passing touchdowns are second-most in the SEC and ranked 14th nationally.

Simpson is one of five Division I quarterbacks with 25 or more passing touchdowns and four or less interceptions.
