Tua Tagovailoa Crowned AFC Offensive Player of the Month
Former Alabama standout Tua Tagovailoa's 2023 season is off to a hot start in Miami. His Dolphins are currently unbeaten and, as of Thursday, he received an honor that his franchise hasn't seen since the 1993 season.
It was announced Thursday by the NFL that the Dolphins' fourth-year quarterback was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month.
Tagovailoa completed 71.3% (72 of 101) of his passes in the month of September and racked up 1,024 yards through the air. In the season's opener against the Chargers, the Hawaii native came three yards short of tying a career-high (469) for passing yards in a game.
The Tagovailoa-led Dolphins this season were also on the winning side of one of the more lopsided victories in NFL history -- drumming the Denver Broncos in Week 3, 70-20. Before offensive starters were pulled in the game, Tua had completed 23 of his 26 passes (88.5%) and recorded four passing touchdowns.
Contingent the remainder of the regular season projects similarly to Tagovailoa's September campaign, he's currently primed to pass for more than 5,000 yards.
