Is Jalen Hurts Considered an Alabama Quarterback?
Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 38-7 victory over the New York Giants to send the Eagles to the 2023 NFC Championship.
Hurts went 16-of-24 for 154 yards and two touchdowns, as well as nine rushing attempts for 34 yards and a touchdown.
However, the dominant performance by Hurts and Co., caused a controversy on social media.
Daily Wire's David Cone tweeted that Hurts had made Alabama history with the playoff win.
"Jalen Hurts is the first Alabama quarterback to win an NFL playoff game since Richard Todd led the Jets past the Raiders in the 1983," tweeted Crone.
However, not everyone agreed. A Twitter user named "Jon Tweets Sports" shared the fact that Hurts is technically considered an Oklahoma quarterback because he spent his final collegiate season in Norman, Okla., and not the Capstone.
"Jalen Hurts is an Oklahoma QB. No Alabama QB has won an NFL playoff game since 1983," tweeted Jon. The tweet has been seen over 827,000 times, has 88 retweets, 44 quote tweets, 828 likes, and 118 replies.
The reply caused an uproar amongst college football fans across social media, debating if Hurts is considered an Alabama or Oklahoma quarterback.
Jon does have a point. Looking at the ESPN and NFL profile of Hurts, both state that his college is Oklahoma.
But the third year starter has been more vocal about being an Alabama alumnus, even reminding a reporter recently about it.
So, is Hurts considered an Alabama quarterback or Oklahoma? Should he count as both? Or should it not matter because he's a phenomenal quarterback, who excelled at both schools he played at?
