Alabama Softball Opens Their Season This Weekend

As the new Alabama softball season starts this Friday at Rhoads Stadium, head coach Patrick Murphy expressed his excitement for what transfers Emma Broadfoot and Faith Hensley will bring to the team this season.

“Great pop,” Murphy said of both Hensley and Broadfoot. “I think they're going to add some power to our lineup.”

The Tide has struggled on offense the past few seasons, so Murphy is hoping that with the additions of these transfers, there will be some improvements on the offensive side after seeing its team batting average dip from .310 as a WCWS semifinalist in 2021 all the way to .284 a year ago.

Hensley transferred from Ball State, where she was the MAC player of the year last season after hitting 17 home runs with a .533 on-base percentage that, combined with a left-handed bat, will make her a good candidate in a leadoff role for slapping purposes.

Broadfoot transferred to Alabama after spending one season at North Alabama. The Danville product started all 36 games with six home runs and a .265 batting average.

As the past couple seasons have not gone the Tide's way, Murphy is hoping that with all of the new freshman and transfers, the new and improved Crimson Tide will make an impact on this season's outcome and bring home another College World Series Title for the program.

Alabama will kick off the 2023 season against Lehigh at home this Friday, Feb 10. at 3:30 p.m. CT.
