It's no secret how thin the Alabama Crimson Tide's defensive back room is. Multiple freshmen are expected to make contributions to that room, led by potential starter Zabien Brown.

While Alabama's trio of freshman cornerbacks are certainly talented and highly rated, all three were rated as five-stars coming out of high school, the lack of experience among the Crimson Tide's secondary is staggering compared to years past. Only two projected starters have more than five starts at the college level, with Keon Sabb only having four.

Despite the talent, Alabama does need experience and depth in the secondary in case of injury. The Tide may be getting some relief in that department, with two transfer portal players expected to visit the capstone this weekend according to On3 Sports.

Both players bring starting experience at a Power Five level. Isaiah Hamilton is a cornerback transfer from the Houston Cougars. Hamilton started all 12 games last season for Houston, totaling 839 snaps according to the Cougars website. Hamilton secured four interceptions for Houston, ranking 19th nationally among all defensive backs. He totaled 50 tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in 2023. Before playing at Houston, Hamilton spent two seasons at Texas Southern in the SWAC. In 2022, Hamilton totaled five picks during 2022 en route to being named First-Team All-Conference.

DaShawn Jones is a cornerback transfer from Wake Forrest. He started nine games for the Demon Deacons in 2023 and appeared in all 10, totaling 37 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, three picks, and two pass breakups.

Both players will visit Alabama this weekend, and the Tide are hoping for some relief in the secondary. Both players come from a 4-2-5 defense, similar to what new Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack wants to run in Tuscaloosa.

The transfer portal is closed, the deadline to enter was April 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Players currently in the portal can remain there until they find a new school to transfer to. Players can no longer enter the portal, however, there still may be portal announcements after the portal closes. School compliance has 48 hours to submit a player's name to the portal after the player shows interest in transferring.
