I'll admit it - I'm addicted to my phone. If you text me and don't hear back - there's a REALLY good chance I'm ignoring you because my phone is always around. Whether it's a call, text, SOCIAL MEDIA, etc - I check my phone WAY too many times to count in a day. It's kind of embarrassing to be totally honest. When my fiance and I go out on dates I am always sure to leave my phone in my purse or vehicle because I don't even want the temptation to get on my phone ... I just want to give all my attention to him.

Part of my obsession with my phone comes from working in the news business for so many years. We were always "working" and constantly had to know what was going on and breaking news situations.

How many times a day do you check your phone?  A hundred?  A thousand?  Are you literally looking at it RIGHT NOW?  It's scary. According to a new study by the consulting company Deloitte, Americans checked their phones a total of NINE BILLION times A DAY this year. That means we looked at our phones a total of about 3.3 TRILLION times in 2016.

About 175 million Americans have smart phones, so that means the average person checks their phone roughly 51 times a day, or almost 19,000 times a year.

The study also found almost HALF of us check our phones in the middle of the night... 90% of us check our phone within an hour of waking up... and the first thing we look at in the morning is our texts and social media.

Now, I'm not saying that's all terrible -- we all do it. But when spending time with those we love, or enjoying the outdoors, let's just "unplug" from the world and be in that moment.
