Many believe that the current financial struggles of Alabamians are related to the state of the United States' economy.
According to the Economist, the economy's strains are starting to show in 2025. They've reported that retail sales are weakening, housing starts have dropped to their lowest since mid-2020, and America added just 73,000 jobs in July, far below economists’ expectations.

Budgeting is a great way to stay out of financial trouble. Recently, Wallet Hub analyzed all 50 states in the nation to determine which state has the best and worst budgeters. Wallet Hub used 12 key metrics, including average credit scores, debt-to-income ratios, and foreclosure rates.

The good news is that Alabama didn't fall in last place in the ranking. The bd news is that we're pretty close.
According to Wallet Hub, Alabama is the 4th worst in the nation when it comes to budgeting. We beat out Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi to place 47th in the nation.
Alabama ranked near the bottom in a few major categories in this study, including median credit score. non-mortgage debt. and savings.
Why do the southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana always seem to be at the bottom of these kinds of studies? Something has to be done to prevent this from consistently happening.
