Fall Allergy Season: How Bad is it in Alabama?
I shiver when I hear anyone say “allergy season.” I’m allergic to almost everything, and the Spring allergy season is never kind to me. Well, we are about to enter into Fall allergy season, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has released its 2020 Allergy Capitals.
The AAFA’s 2020 Allergy Capitals highlights the 100 largest cities in the continental U.S. “This year’s report uses both spring and fall allergy data to rank the 100 largest cities in the continental United States.” Also, “AAFA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with asthma and allergic diseases through education, advocacy, research, and support.”
Yikes, where does West and Central Alabama fall on this allergy capitals list? We didn’t do so badly; the closest city ranked to West Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. Out of 100 cities listed of “the most challenging places to live with Allergies,” Birmingham ranked #74 for fall allergies, #67 for spring allergies, and #74 for an overall ranking.
The AAFA lists symptoms of the “most common allergic conditions of “allergic rhinitis, often called hay fever. It causes symptoms such as sneezing, stuffy nose. runny nose .watery eyes, and itching of the nose, eyes, or the roof of the mouth.” To get ready for fall allergy season, go ahead and grab your tissue box, allergy medicines, and manage your contact with pollen.
