Details on Early Week Tornado, Damaging Wind Threat in Alabama
Last week we experienced a cold snap that even broke some record temperature lows in Alabama. Now, the warm and dry weather continues through Monday. Then we are faced with the possibility of severe weather on Tuesday.
Townsquare Media is closely monitoring the potential for severe weather on Tuesday afternoon and evening. We will be sure to bring you all updates to keep you informed so you can make your plans to stay safe.
Townsquare Media Radio Stations & Coverage Areas
This a reminder that our radio coverage area is pretty large by way of our live and local radio stations with Praise 93.3, 92.9 WTUG, 95.3 The Bear, METV 97.5, Catfish 100.1, Tide 100.9, ALT 101.7, and 105.1 The Block.
Through these radio stations, we cover Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that “a weather system will bring showers and thunderstorms into Alabama Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night.”
Current Thoughts on Timing & Threats
“The main window for the heavier storms will come from about 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Robust kinematic fields suggest damaging gusts as the primary threat with any deeper updrafts within the line, but a brief, isolated tornado can't be ruled out over the western third of the state. Rain amounts of around 1/2 are likely, with higher amounts over Southeast Alabama,” said Spann.
Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has most of the Yellowhammer State under a “marginal risk” which is level 1 out of 5 for severe thunderstorms.
