Cover 140 Will Help Feed Tuscaloosa Area Kids at Their Fundraiser Monday
Secret Meals For Hungry Children is partnering with six University of Alabama public relation students to host a bingo fundraiser, Cover 140, on Monday, Nov. 6 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Moe’s Original BBQ. The goal of Cover 140 is to spread awareness and raise funds for Secret Meals.
Secret Meals is Alabama Credit Union’s philanthropic effort that provides Alabama’s food-insecure children with weekend meals. “The name Cover 140 was inspired by the fact that it costs $140 to feed a child for the entire school year,” said Elizabeth Driver, a student on the Cover 140 team. “We invite everyone over the age of 21 to come out and help us cover the cost.” In Alabama, one in five children are food insecure and go hungry during the weekend, specifically 289,960 children are living in households suffering food insecurity.
For Cover 140, there will be a $10 cover charge. Secret Meals will be receiving 50 percent of the cover. Every dollar donated to Secret Meals goes directly to local hungry children. People are invited to play bingo to win prizes from local businesses and have a speciality drink in Secret Meals cups.
