Columbus Air Force Base says that the plane was a T-38 Talon II from their base and that a "mishap" occurred around 12:00 pm. That "mishap" led to the pilots' safe ejection, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The jet that crashed is a two-seat twinjet supersonic jet trainer designed and produced by the American aircraft manufacturer Northrop Corporation. It was the world's first supersonic trainer and the most produced. The jet is used by the Air Force, the Navy, and NASA.
