Chris Janson’s New Song ‘Drunk Girl’ Isn’t What You Think [LISTEN]
Chris Janson's new song "Drunk Girl" isn't the song its title suggests; in fact, it's the exact opposite. The tune, from Janson's newest album, Everybody, offers a message of respect, and, the singer hopes, will be a single soon.
"Take a drunk girl home / Let her sleep all alone / Leave her keys on the counter, your number by the phone," Janson sings in the chorus of "Drunk Girl." "Pick up her life she threw on the floor / Leave the hall lights on, walk out and lock the door / That's how she knows the difference between a boy and man ..."
In an interview on the Ty, Kelly & Chuck morning show, Janson explains that "Drunk Girl" is essentially an encouragement to young men to help intoxicated women get home safely instead of trying to sleep with them. The singer says he had his two sons in mind when penning the tune, and hopes that his daughters, should they find themselves in a situation like the song describes, will be helped home safely.
“This is exactly how you treat a girl, at least in my opinion," Janson says. "And I think we’re shedding a new light on something, frankly, that doesn’t get talked about a lot. It gets swept under the rug, and when you do hear about it, it always gets lit up in a negative tone.”
"Drunk Girl" was co-written by Janson, Scooter Carusoe and Tom Douglas. It is the final song on Janson's Everybody album, released on Sept. 22.
