Beth Bombara, ‘Map & No Direction’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Missouri singer-songwriter Beth Bombara is premiering her new song “Map & No Direction” exclusively for readers of The Boot.
"Map & No Direction" has roots in Bombara’s personal story, and a battle with what she describes as a “can’t-quite-get-out-of-bed, always-tired-but-can’t-sleep kind of depression.” As such, it effortlessly conveys a theme with which anyone with a similar history with the illness will immediately identify.
“In a way, this album was a coping mechanism to pull myself out of a depression that had slowly engulfed me,” Bombara tells The Boot. “This was a new experience; I’m generally a pretty positive, glass-half-full sort of person. Writing "Map & No Direction" was my way of processing what I was going through and how lost I was feeling.”
The St. Louis-based Bombara has been slowly building buzz as a new Americana artist, earning comparisons to a "bourbon-warmed Neko Case" and touring with Pokey LaFarge, Waxahatchee and Joe Pug. This year, she’ll have her own showcase at the 2017 Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, alongside artists such as Ani DiFranco and a host of up-and-coming roots-y acts.
“Map & No Direction” is the title track of Bombara’s forthcoming album, which was funded on the PledgeMusic platform. Fans who pre-order the album, which is due out on March 3, can score a variety of perks, ranging from a hand-written lyric sheet to a private gig in their backyard, along with the new tunes.
