There are just a few days left in 2020. As we enter into the New Year, be prepared for the possibility of severe weather. As always, we will bring you updates on this potential stormy New Year’s Eve.

The National Weather Service Birmingham reminds us that “it doesn't matter what "color" (risk) your location is under. The message is simple...Be Prepared! Know your location on a map. Emergency kit, Safety plan, and Multiple ways to receive alerts.”

As of right now, the National Weather Service Birmingham expects the timing of the severe weather threat to take place between “9 pm Thursday into Friday morning at 8 am.” However, please keep in mind the timing could change. I would highly recommend staying aware of this severe weather event. There is the potential for gusty winds as the front moves through our area.

Our listeners' coverage areas are in a marginal risk area, and others in a slight risk area. At this time, the Slight Risk Area has the potential of “damaging winds up to 60 mph with tornadoes possible.” The Marginal Risk Area notes that the “threats mentioned above are less likely but cannot be completely ruled out.”

We will keep you updated as the weather information develops.
