Friday, October 2, brings the Bama Runs for Breast Cancer 5K!
Registration begins at 1:30 p.m., and the run begins at 2:30 p.m.
The event benefits The DCH Help & Hope Fund – Paxman Project, which provides free scalp-cooling treatments to patients undergoing chemotherapy.
About 42,140 women are expected to die from breast cancer this year. Lifetime risk is about 1 in 8 women, with a median age at diagnosis of 63. There’s also progress to note. Death rates have dropped about 44 percent since 1989. When breast cancer is found while it’s still localized, the 5-year relative survival rate is over 99 percent, which is an encouraging sign.
