Back-to-school season is in full effect in Tuscaloosa, and parents and students alike are gearing up to start the new school year. There are plenty of events on the way to help ease the financial burden of back-to-school season, including this huge event with READY Tuscaloosa.

Thursday, July 10th, 2025, READY Tuscaloosa will host their Freedom Day Back To School Bash at the Tuscaloosa River Market starting at 10a.

There will be 400 backpacks given away, and they will be filled with school supplies.

"We're Excited. Normally, we do about 300 bookbags; this year, we're doing 400," said Nicole Shine, Executive Director of READY.

"We are you're local substance use prevention team," Shine stated.

"We do everything for substance use prevention, whether it's in elementary school, middle school, or we even work with college students."

READY, which stands for Resources. Education and Advocacy for Drug-Free Youth is the only non-profit substance abuse prevention organization in the area, according to their Facebook page.

They are dedicated to creating awareness and are passionate about preventing the onset of addiction and substance abuse in the Tuscaloosa and West Alabama area.
