We are trying to lift Tuscaloosa's spirit with great music and fun conversations.

Pastor Scott McCown from Central Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa presents a feature called "Just a thought and not a sermon" on the radio and on social media.

We asked Scott to do the same thing here and share these thoughts with all of us.

So, here comes the first one, and many more will come in the future!

Is Your State Happy?

Are you happy where you live?

According to Adam McCann on wallethub.com we now know the happiest states in the United States in 2025.

This happiness index evaluates employment rates, mortgage foreclosures, and citizen surveys.

Hawaii ranks as the happiest while West Virginia, Arkansas, and Louisiana rank as the least happy.

I thought Alabama would be somewhere in the top twenty, but this obviously biased poll had Alabama rank 44th.

I live here, but Alabama is not my home, my citizenship is elsewhere -- Phil 3:20, "But our citizenship is in heaven . . ." If you, like me are 'in Christ,' then you have a completely different place of residence (Gal 3:26-27).

Being a resident of heaven, affords us the honor of truly residing in the happiest, most content, state of all; the state of being blessed in Christ.

Paul writes, " . . . I have learned in whatsoever state I in to be content . . . I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." (Phil 4:11-13).

So whether you live in Hawaii, Louisiana, Alabama, Louisiana, Arizona, Georgia, or any other state or country -- you can be happy in Christ.
