Anchor Tuscaloosa, a collaborative initiative designed to connect college students with the opportunities and lifestyle of West Alabama, is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort. Applications are currently open, with a deadline to apply by November 21.

Now entering its second year, Anchor Tuscaloosa builds on the success of its inaugural class by showcasing why Tuscaloosa County is an exceptional place for young professionals to live, work, and thrive.

Anchor Tuscaloosa is made possible through a partnership of local and statewide organizations.

Powered by Fuel Alabama, Anchor Tuscaloosa gives students access to the people, places, and experiences that highlight the opportunity and quality of life in West Alabama.

The free semester-long program provides a highly competitive and exclusive experience for qualified undergraduate and graduate students from The University of Alabama, Stillman College, and Shelton State Community College. Participants must have completed at least 30 hours of academic credit prior to December 31, 2025.

Beginning in January 2026, selected students will take part in a series of immersive sessions that Include conversations with local and statewide elected officials, networking with business leaders, And access to cultural and community assets that extend far beyond the classroom.

“Our hope is to give students a front row seat to the people and places that make this community what it is,” said Kyle South, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

“Through Anchor Tuscaloosa’s purposeful programming, we want them to see why West Alabama s not only where they go to school, but where they can build their future.”

“When I came to The University of Alabama from Sevierville, Tennessee, I did not expect to want to stay in the state but programs such as Anchor Tuscaloosa have made me change my mind,” said Luke Mintz, a junior studying Political Science and a 2025 participant.

Applications will remain open until November 21, 2025. Selected participants may be asked to participate in a virtual interview and will be notified of acceptance by December 16, 2025.
