Alabama’s ‘Round One’ Severe Weather Outlook Includes Tornadoes
The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been tracking conditions to help you prepare for two different rounds of severe weather. This information will focus on the first round, which is on the way.

James Spann, ABC 33/40 and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “A dangerous outbreak of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes is forecast across a large area beginning late tonight. A dynamic storm system will bring two rounds of severe thunderstorms.”

Risk Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has defined most West Alabama as an enhanced risk (Level 3 out of 5). Portions of Bibb and Perry counties are in the slight risk area (Level 2 out of 5).
Threats
Spann said the “Highest risk of severe storms with 'round one' will be over the western half of the state, mainly along and west of I-65. The severe threat is much lower over the eastern counties, where the air will be more stable.”
The National Weather Service in Birmingham warned of threats like “tornadoes (potential for a strong tornado), quarter-size hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph.”
“Where storms develop, they can produce hail and damaging winds. A few tornadoes are possible as well, mainly over West Alabama,” said Spann.
