Alabamians may pay more when they visit the DMV this year. Are you ready for higher prices?

The state of Alabama has high fees when it comes to vehicle registration. In fact, Alabama is in the top 10 most expensive states when it comes to vehicle registration fees in the country.

According to World Population View,  Alabama ranks above states like California, Nevada, and New York when it comes to vehicle registration fees. Neighboring states like Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida all have significantly lower fees than Alabama.

The state of Alabama has an average vehicle registration fee of $67, while the state next to us (Mississippi) has an average of $12.75. Georgia has an average of $20.

It's looking like higher prices will be a theme within the state, according to the latest news from the DMV.

According to Yahoo, an Alabama Probate Judge, tag renewals in Alabama are set to significantly increase due to multiple factors.

"The used car market, there’s certain makes and models that are worth more than used previously, and that part will fluctuate," said Montgomery County Probate Judge J.C. Love III, according to Yahoo.

“There is some benefit going toward it because that is going to help provide a better education for our schools and help prepare our kids that are coming out for the job and workforce that we’re trying to create here in Montgomery County,” Love said.
