Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Steen previewed Alabama’s upcoming matchup against a familiar foe for him, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Steen transferred to Alabama from Vanderbilt back in April and was immediately regarded by many as the answer to Alabama’s offensive line woes from the 2021 season.

How did the long-time Vanderbilt starter make his way to the Capstone?

“I spent four years at Vanderbilt [and] got my degree, [I] really was just looking for something new,” said Steen. “I had the opportunity to go to a prestigious university like this and I didn’t want to pass that up, so I made that decision.”

Steen is excited to play against his former team, but he is still focused on the main goal.

“It’s going to be fun, but at the end of the day it’s another game,” said Steen. “As a team we’re all focused on pretty much playing in, play out… just dominating… and you know the results are going to come with that.”

Steen noted that the coaching staff has looked to him for some knowledge on the Commodores.

“I was there for a while so from a personnel standpoint I could definitely give some pointers and stuff like that to the o-line and the offense in general,” said Steen. “I already had a coach on the defensive side come up to me and ask for a couple pointers on the [Vanderbilt] offense… I definitely feel like I could help a little bit, but you know the coaches, they watch all the film, they break down all that stuff so we trust them to give us the game plan.”

The former Commodore has been a force on the Alabama offensive line so far as the starting left tackle. Steen and the Tide look to take down the Commodores this Saturday and improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference.
