Alabama Pitcher Tyler Ras Drafted By Colorado Rockies
Alabama junior pitcher Tyler Ras was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 14th Round of the MLB Draft. Ras was drafted with the No. 410 pick and became the fifth Alabama player and the third pitcher off the 2021 roster to be selected during this season's MLB Draft.
Ras was thrust into the Friday night role after Connor Prielipp suffered injury. He accumulated a 7-5 record with a 5.38 ERA as a starter this past year, finishing second on the team with 86.2 innings and striking out 59 batters. He allowed three or fewer runs in eight starts.
Ras, a former part-time position player as a freshman, earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team and was a finalist for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove.
Ras earned high marks in the classroom, majoring in human performance exercise science and earning a position on the SEC Academic Honor roll from 2018-2021.
Alabama's five draft picks ties the 2015 team for the most in a 15 round draft. The Bama baseball team is now up to 164 total draft picks since the event began in 1966. The Tide has now had at least one player selected in 43 consecutive years dating back to 1979.
After being drafted, players with remaining eligibility may opt to return to college and continue their career in order to try to improve their draft position should they choose not to sign a professional contract.
