The National Weather Service in Birmingham said residents should know that “Tuesday through Thursday as waves of moderate to heavy rainfall pass across the area, resulting in low to medium chances for minor flooding of poor drainage and low-lying areas, and a low risk of isolated flash flooding.”

Risk Areas

Flooding concerns are for those areas generally along and north of I-20.

Potential Threats

The main concerns are isolated flash flooding, minor river flooding, flooding of low-lying areas, and poor drainage areas.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “Waves of widespread rain, heavy at times, will impact Alabama Tuesday and Wednesday. Some thunder is possible, but severe storms are not expected.”

Exactly How Much Rain?

“Rain amounts of 2-4 inches are likely over the northern half of the state, with 1-2 inches for the southern counties,” said Spann. “Some flooding issues are possible by Wednesday and Wednesday night.”
