This total is a new record, and the increase reflects a deliberate approach to strategic growth as UA advances its future-ready flagship vision. UA enrolled 18,652 Alabama residents, up nearly 4% from last year. The growth demonstrates UA's role as the premier, flagship university. The academic profile of first-time undergraduates continues to increase, with an average high school GPA of 3.86.

UA President Peter Mohler released a statement on the new enrollment figures and made it clear that success is not measured by enrollment alone. Mohler discussed the impact students have after they graduate and their development as leaders as the way this class will be remembered. The increase in in-state students is a key marker of the UA's commitment to develop talent for Alabama.

UA's commitment to student success is showing measurable results, according to figures provided by the university, with the six-year graduation rate for the 2020 cohort reaching 75.5%, a record high since the university started tracking the measure in 1988.
