On Thursday, Matt Zenitz of Al.com reported on the expected departure of defensive analyst Mike Stoops to Texas. Stoops was reportedly going to be joining the Longhorns staff as a linebackers coach, and would have been the fourth coach to leave the Tide for Texas; however, recent reports have stated that Stoops will be remaining in Tuscaloosa.

Mike Stoops joined the Crimson Tide staff as a defensive analyst in 2019 after serving as the head coach at Arizona from 2004-2011 the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma from 2012-2018.  Stoops was fired from Oklahoma just halfway through the 2018 season following a rough loss to Texas. The following season Nick Saban hired Stoops as a defensive analyst and he remained on the staff for 2020 despite an offer to be an assistant coach at Kentucky with his brother Mark.

Whether or not Stoops will be promoted this season for Alabama or if he will pursue a job elsewhere is yet to be seen, but for now he is staying in Tuscaloosa and will continue his role as defensive analyst.
