Alabama Cornerback Transfers to SEC West Rival
Former Alabama cornerback Marcus Banks announced on his social media that he intends to transfer to SEC rival Mississippi State. Banks was considered a 4-star prospect out of Houston, Texas in the class of 2019. According to 247Sports Banks was rated the No. 21 overall player in Texas and the No. 13 cornerback in the class.
Banks, has appeared in 24 games for the Crimson Tide largely on special teams and as a rotational defensive back. He started one game in 2021 against the Mercer Bears. He's recorded eight tackles and one interception during his time with the Tide.
The junior corner opted to enter the transfer portal after Kool-Aid McKinstry was chosen to start the LSU game when Josh Jobe was unavailable due to injury.
Mississippi State finished the year 7-5 and finished tied for 3rd in the SEC West. Banks is the third Alabama player to transfer to Starkville in the last two seasons following Tyrell Shavers and Scott Lashley.
Alabama will likely be just fine at the cornerback position going forward. McKinstry will be joined by Eli Ricks, Khyree Jackson, Earl Little Jr. and Treqon Fagans to compete for the starting roles in 2022.
