A strong fourth inning helped propel the Alabama baseball team to its first SEC series victory of the season as the Tide took down the Texas A&M Aggies 8-4 on Sunday.

“Just really glad to get a series win,” said Alabama head coach Brad Bohanon. “You want to play one game at a time, but after losing on Friday [I'm] really proud of the way our kids responded.”

The Aggies struck first in the second inning as Ryan Targac hit a two-run homer over the center field wall, giving Texas A&M an early 2-0 lead.

The Tide finally got on the board in the fifth inning as William Hamiter and Dominic Tamez hit back-to-back RBI doubles, putting Alabama up 3-2. Later in the inning, Zane Denton and Drew Williamson earned back-to-back hits to put two more runs on the board for the Tide.

The Tide added to its lead in the seventh inning with a couple of unearned runs as Andrew Pickney reaching on a fielder’s choice to score Tommy Seidl and Zane Denton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring Pickney.

The Aggies scored a run in the top of the eighth on a wild pitch, but the Tide responded in the bottom half of the inning as Bryce Eblin hit a RBI double to score Seidl.

The Aggies would add one more in the top of the ninth, but it wouldn’t be enough as Alabama came away with the 8-4 victory.

Hunter Fortado earned the decision, improving to 3-2 on the season with three innings pitched, two hits, no runs, and one walk.

“I thought Hunter Fortado was really good, [he] put up three zeros for us in the middle of the game to give us a chance to take the lead,” said Coach Bohanon.

Up next, Alabama hosts Samford on Tuesday night before going on the road for a three-game series next weekend against No. 9 Ole Miss.
