On Sunday the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Mcneese State Cowboys 9-5 in the third and final meeting of their Opening Weekend series.

Junior right-hander Dylan Smith got the starting nod from coach Brad Bohannon and would leave the mound to a standing ovation from the fans Sewell-Thomas Stadium. For the afternoon, Smith managed to go 4.2 total innings with five strikeouts and only two runs. His reliever, freshman LHP Grayson Hitt, had a rougher day than anticipated by giving up three earned runs and four hits to just the 16 at-bats he fought through. Senior LHP Brock Guffey came in and shut down any hopes of a McNeese comeback, picking up no runs on one hit with two strikeouts for clearance. In total, Alabama's pitching staff accounted for 11 strikeouts in the series sweeping win on Sunday.

It was yet another day for the fireworks in The Joe as sophomore RF Owen Diodati, sophomore 3B Zane Denton, and junior 1B Drew Williamson combine for seven total runs from the longball alone. The biggest shot came from Diodati in the sixth as he managed to clear the loaded bases and take Bama's final lead of the game. "Dio" finished his day 1-for-3 (including an HBP) with four runs batted in for Alabama.

Now a perfect 3-0 on this young season, Alabama gets one day's rest before traveling to take on the JSU Gamecocks in Jacksonville, Alabama on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. The next opportunity to catch the Tide at home, however, comes the day after as UT-Martin makes the one-game trip to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday, February 24 for a 3:00 pm first pitch.
