It has been a long offseason for SEC fans. The last televised athletic event the conference held was in March of this year just as the coronavirus was spreading through the nation. SEC fans are now five days away from the football season kicking off and with that we now have depth charts for the Crimson Tide.

Despite all the hype surrounding freshman Bryce Young, veteran Mac Jones has been named the starter at quarterback. Trey Sanders slots into the third running back spot, losing the backup role to Tuscaloosa native, Brian Robinson, however both backs should see touches while complimenting Najee Harris in the opener.

Emil Ekiyor becomes the new starter on the offensive line, filling in at right guard while Landon Dickerson is starting the year off at center.

Grad-transfer tight end, Carl Tucker, is listed as the No. 3 tight end on the depth chart but he, Miller Forristall and Major Tennison should all see action filling different roles.

Most assummed DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle were locks to start and they are listed as starters but it is John Metchie III listed at the third wide receiver position. Freshman Javon Baker had received offseason hype but he is currently listed behind Smith on the initial depth chart.

A few surprises stand out on the initial defensive depth chart, two freshman starters and one name not starting after garnering a lot of hype.

Christian Barmore, currently nursing a minor knee injury, is listed second on the depth chart behind Justin Eboigbe. Barmore recently tweeted that he would be available for this weekend's game against Missouri.

Freshman Will Anderson Jr. and Malachi Moore have obviously impressed the coaching staff as both of them are listed first on the depth chart at Jack linebacker and at Star defensive back. Both players are interestingly enough being listed with fellow freshman backups, Drew Sanders and Brian Branch.

Fan favorite Ben Davis is listed second on the initial depth chart at SAM linebacker behind Christopher Allen and 6th-year senior Joshua McMillon ends up backing up Christian Harris at WILL after fall camp.

Special teams have not always been so special for the Crimson Tide. This season's initial depth chart features two Birmingham area players in Will Reichard as the lead kicker and freshman Sam Johnson as the top punter. Jaylen Waddle assumes the lead kickoff and punt returning duties.
