Alabama Adds Todd Watson In Support Staff Role
The Alabama football program is adding Todd Watson to its staff in a supportive role, according to a report by AL.com's Matt Zenitz. Watson has spent the last three seasons in Knoxville serving as Tennessee's director of football operations for two seasons and in 2020 serving as Tennessee's director of football programming in 2020.
Watson has a deep knowledge of the state of Alabama, having served as a high school coach in the state. He served as defensive coordinator of Hoover High School from 2000 to 2004, winning four state championships, and was head coach of Foley High School for 10 years compiling an 80-36 record. While at Foley he helped develop former Crimson Tide stars, Julio Jones, D.J. Fluker and Robert Lester.
Watson left Foley to take the director of football operations and director of high school relations for the Troy Trojans under then head coach Neal Brown. He was then hired by Jeremy Pruitt in Knoxville to serve as director of football operations.
Watson joins Jay Graham in making the journey from Knoxville to Tuscaloosa after wide sweeping changes in the Tennessee football program this offseason. The University of Tennessee fired Jeremy Pruitt on Jan. 18, athletic director Phillip Fulmer also resigned creating voids in the Volunteers football program.
