The State of Alabama has gone from warm temperatures to severe weather which transitioned to cold temperatures which led to snow for some areas. Now the Yellowhammer State could face a possible wintry mix on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist noted on Facebook that this is a “complex forecast for the northern third of the state.” Spann added that the “precipitation begins tomorrow morning, a period sleet or freezing rain is possible due to evaporative cooling, and cold air advection. Then, after a change to a cold rain, precipitation could change back to freezing rain or sleet again by afternoon as cold air deepens. A few snowflakes could be in the mix before it all ends tomorrow evening.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that the “moisture will move north into the state overnight, with scattered showers possible during freezing temperatures.”

Winter Weather UPDATE:

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Lamar County by the National Weather Service, this also includes Marion and Winston counties. This is for Thursday from 5 am until 12 Noon.

Timeline

Thursday - 5 am to 11 am

Spann provided us with more area insight commenting that “this chance of "wintry precipitation" is mainly north of a line from Millport to Cullman to Scottsboro. The highest chance of travel impact (icy bridges) will be along and north of the Tennessee River. A few snow flurries are possible tomorrow evening as far south as I-20, but we expect no impact for places like Tuscaloosa/Birmingham/Anniston/Gadsden at this point.”
