If you're unfamiliar, Shooter's music is equal parts Waylon Jennings and Marilyn Manson and defies labels. True. Just take a look at guest appearances on his debut record back in 2004. He welcomed Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and country legend George Jones into the studio with him.

In 2009 he took his band, Hierophant on the notoriously punk rock touring festival The Van's Warped Tour and in the same year teamed with various other artists and launched the "XXX" movement to help musicians who struggle to receive mainstream recognition.

He now owns Black Country Rock, a multi-format record label that has put out releases by his mother Jessi Colter, Waylon, adult film star Ron Jeremy, wrestling legend Mick Foley, and others.

You could say that it's in his blood to do things different and make things right. It's in his blood to change the way we think as listeners and consumers of good music. Think about the way Waylon, Willie, Cash and all those guys came in back in the day and changed the musical landscape for a while. They gave us choices and with any luck, Shooter will follow suit.

Here is our conversation in it's entirety.

Then take a moment to check out his new track 'Don't Wait Up (I'm Playing Possum).'
