Payless ShoeSource Closing 800 Stores Including One In Tuscaloosa

Payless ShoeSource could be closing as many as 800 stores, including One in Tuscaloosa, and two in Hoover/Birmingham as part of their Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection plan.

Experts estimate that the 800 some locations represent approximately 20% of Payless' Stores Worldwide.

The Payless store which is said to be closing in Tuscaloosa is The University Mall Location. Here's a list of the stores closing in Alabama:

The Payless stores located on Skyland and the Northport Payless location are said to be remaining open.

When I went into the Payless ShoeSource on Skyland and asked them if they knew of the company's plan to close 800 stores, they offered no comment.
