Now that 2012 is gone I’ve spent some time thinking back on some of the best country releases of the year.

My favorite song of 2012 that hit country radio was ‘Merry Go ‘Round’ from newcomer Kacey Musgraves. The steady banjo pick coupled with her innocently smooth delivery quickly moved this to the top of my list almost immediately. In 2007, Kacey placed 7th on season 5 of Nashville Star and has since went on to tour with Lady Antebellum and is currently out with Little Big Town and will be with them when that tour hits the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham on February 1st.

Second on my list is ‘How Country Feels’ by Randy Houser. I have been a fan of Randy’s since he first hit the scene back in 2008. I think it’s a combination of his scruffy voice and powerful, bluesy delivery that draw you into each song. With its rock n’ roll rhythm and driving backbeat, ‘How Country Feels’ has the makings of a number one hit easily.

I am also a big fan of ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ by Joanna Smith. Beautifully written, the song takes on a subject that almost every one of us has experienced so instantly, ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ is memorable and connects with the listener. Joanna’s soft, emotional delivery gives the song a heartfelt dimension and almost wistful quality.

I’ll quickly mention a few others that I was into this year...

‘Cruise’ by Florida Georgia Line was by far one of the catchiest releases of 2012. ‘Pontoon’ by Little Big Town was their first number one and one of the most unforgettable not to mention the follow up and title track from their new release 'Tornado'.
I was also into every song on the new Lee Brice and Kenny Chesney CDs as well as Jake Owen’s ‘Endless Summer' ep.

I could talk about another twenty songs released in 2012 but will end my list here and give you the chance to get to know each of the ones named.
