ALDOT says construction will take place on Sundays through Thursdays between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and should take about three months to complete.

During construction, a partial crossover closure will be in place at Highway 69 South’s intersection with Mally Street, which leads to Taco Casa and the Alabama Credit Union. Northbound motorists will be able to turn onto Mally Street, but southbound travelers will be blocked by the crossover closure that’s being implemented out of safety concerns.

Per the Tuscaloosa News, this is one of a number of projects meant to alleviate the expected traffic congestion that will come from the $60.2 million project to improve the intersection of Skyland Boulevard and Alabama Highway 69 South.

Slated to begin later this year, this massive project will install an elevated bridge over the intersection that will allow Highway 69 traffic to pass through without stopping.

The bridge will also include separate ramps for the nearly 6,000-vehicles-per-day to access Interstate 20/59 and additional lanes to bring motorists down to the surface in order to gain access via traffic signals to Skyland Boulevard or Oscar Baxter Drive.
