Miranda Lambert Brings ‘Pink Sunglasses’ to the 2017 CMT Music Awards [Watch]
Miranda Lambert rediscovered her sassy side at the 2017 CMT Awards on Wednesday night (June 7), bringing a playful performance of "Pink Sunglasses" to the stage.
The song is more in line with the kind of attitude and humor-laden songs she's best known for, like "We Should Be Friends," after a marked departure from that kind of material with her most recent single, the heartbreak ballad "Tin Man," which she has performed in several deeply personal renditions recently. Lambert seemed back to her old self as she strode the stage on Wednesday night at the Music City Center in Nashville, toying with the crowd as they donned pink sunglasses all over the venue and swayed along to her performance.
Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby and Rodney Clawson wrote "Pink Sunglasses," and the tongue-in-cheek lyrics make it plain that the narrator of the song is using the cheap shades as a convenient barrier between herself and the vagaries of the world.
Worst Dressed at the 2017 CMT Music Awards
"In my pink sunglasses / Always makes the world look a little bit better / In my pink sunglasses / You can try 'em anytime you need a change of the weather / At $9.99, I'm perfectly disguised / When I'm walking by, I wanna roll my eyes / In my pink sunglasses," Lambert sings in the chorus.
The song appears on Lambert's award-winning double album The Weight of These Wings, which she released in November of 2016. She's been out on the road promoting it on her Highway Vagabond Tour, and she'll make a very special visit to the 2017 CMA Music Fest on Thursday (June 8), when she leads a parade of rescue dogs through Nashville as part of a very special adoption event she is holding with her MuttNation Foundation.
Lambert will travel to Hunter Mountain in New York to join Jason Aldean and Sam Hunt as headliner at the 2017 Taste of Country Music Festival, which takes place June 9-11.
