Drew Sanders is Primed for a Big Sophomore Campaign
Drew Sanders has looked noticeably bigger during Alabama's 4th quarter program. The 6-foot-5, 230 pound linebacker came to Alabama as a five-star prospect from Denton, Texas and part of the 2020 recruiting class.
He was rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Texas, the top-ranked athlete and No. 13 player overall according the 247Sports. In 2019, Sanders brought home Landry Player of the Year honors, the award is given to the top high school player in North Texas.
He appeared in 12 games as a true freshman in 2020, recording nine tackles and one quarterback hit, playing mostly special teams for the Tide.
Sanders was named Special Teams Player of the Week by the coaches in games against Tennessee and Arkansas.
The Texas native came to Tuscaloosa as part of a recruiting class that featured fellow linebacker Will Anderson Jr. As a freshman, Anderson finished third in the conference in sacks with seven and third in tackles for loss with 10.5. He would earn Freshman All-American and second team All-SEC honors.
Anderson and Christopher Allen will return as the starting outside linebackers for the Tide, but Sanders could see an increased role in 2021.
